Cinema Perfume by YSL

cinema-perfumeBe mesmerized by the glamour and red-carpet treatment Hollywood stars enjoy. Cinema perfume by YSL lets you savor the same delightful and fleeting sensation when fans and critics alike offer you their undivided attention. They worship you with such fervor that you just couldn’t help but feel your ego puff up ten times at that very moment. Like most Hollywood stars, Cinema is the kind of fragrance that tempts you with its distinct sophistication and mystery. The scent is naturally almond-sweet at the top and dries down into a warm and creamy base full of woods and vanilla. It features Clementine, almond tree blossom, cyclamen, amaryllis, sambac jasmine, peony, amber, white musk and bourbon vanilla.

Cinema is an oriental-floral themed fragrance designed by perfumer Jacques Cavallier. It touts itself as an elegant perfume jazzed up by lovely florals and refreshing almonds and vanilla. Sillage is moderate. It’s neither light not overwhelming rather, it’s perky and conveys a somewhat retro-touch with its invariably rich and expensive aroma.

One perfume reviewer gave it a thumbs up for its well-blended fragrance notes, “The top notes, first 10 minutes perhaps are confusing to me, because for some reason, each time I perceive them differently. But general impression is good complexity, elegance, not too modern, but somehow manages to suit almost every age. I am not raving mad about this scent, because somehow it doesn’t hook me anyway. And perhaps dry down and what I smell later explains that. When I smell Cinema after an hour it is so painfully familiar! I don’t know from where, or who used to wear it in my environment, but I know it for ages! And it starts smelling too floral for me… but such a familiarity of scent, even without trying it before, True Classic.” And another perfumista raving about Cinema’s uniqueness, “A naturalistic, dark, and moderately indolic jasmine lends Cinéma some depth and mystery beneath its bright, pretty surface. While Cinéma is not weak, it’s not distracting either, and would make a perfectly nice everyday scent. The dry down sets in after about four hours, and consists mostly of very soft, creamy woods and vanilla notes. Is it groundbreaking? No. But in an age when scents of this type are almost invariably idiotic, Cinéma is refreshingly smart, and that has to count for something.”
