Natural Smells Attract Opposites...

powers of attraction

Hold the phone, it’s no longer attractive to smell good. Good in the normally accepted sense, that is. And scientists aren’t joking. They have long speculated that natural smells and pheromones played a part in attracting the opposite sex. And surprise, surprise: scientists recently discovered that these theories are correct! Lucky for you, bottled B.O.  and pheromone perfumes have been long been available. So run, don’t walk, to your nearest discount perfume e-tailer to snatch up your bottle of au naturel aromas.

lovely sarah jessica parkerAnimalic perfumes are perfumes that maximize the natural musky smell secreted by animals. Civet, musk, ambergris—these are common scents that you could find secreted by animals. While musk is quite light and common, civet is a little more difficult to swallow. Ambergris, in its true form, is now difficult to access. Original ambergris and soft amber (a synthetic scent that mimics this precious aromatic material that’s excreted from whale’s glands by mixing resinous labdanum and vanilla) are warm, earthy, resinous scents. The soft, sweet glowing amber is a popular basenote in most woman’s perfumes. Popular musk scents are Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely, her upcoming B.O. perfume, and Kouros (a popular Yves Saint Lauren cologne). The daring civet scent is prominent in Jean Patou Joy, Guerlain Jicky and Paco Rabane La Nuit.

But if a natural smell is not enough to get you feeling sexy, try pheromones. But who the heck bottles hormones that aren’t perceivable by the sense of smell? Well, loads of perfumers have recently jumped up to brave that fourth dimension of scent. Realm by Erox (also known as Human Pheromone Sciences) and Paris Hilton Women are the popular leaders in this category. What you get with these perfumes is a typical enjoyable perfume, minus the screeching of animalic notes. Underlying all the aromatic chemistry, another type of chemical attraction is brewing. These added synthetic pheromones mimic the strings of natural attraction.

ysl kouros bottleHave your doubts about natural body odors and pheromones playing a part in attraction? Well, a recent study revealed that men found the T-shirts of fertile women more pleasant smelling than those of non-fertile women. Dr. Miller of this experiment says this demonstrates that men’s testosterone levels are kicked up when they smell a woman natural odors. Another recently released study declares that pheromones pump up the “baseline frequency in romantic attention.” Glynis Gould, a researcher on this project explains, “According to the research we’ve done, pheromones will lure someone to you even more powerfully or at least as powerfully as appearance.”

So next time your looking for a perfume that attracts, consider some natural smelling options or some pheromone-filled fragrances. Scentiments.com carries all the above-mentioned natural and pheromone perfumes at great discounts.

Angel Cologne by Thierry Mugler...

angel-cologneThierry Mugler’s passion for superheroes and theatrical fantasy are captured in a mesmerizing oriental gourmand fragrance called Angel. After its success in 1988, a full suite of Angel-inspired fragrances followed suit. Angel Men or A*Men, the men’s version of Angel, is an explosion of woody notes of musk and toasty aroma of roasted coffee beans. B*Men on the other hand is A*Men with zest. It’s a combination of masculine citrus scents and wood accords. The energy emanating from the Angel fragrances is a continuum of Mugler’s wild imagination. His perfumes show his penchant for anything cosmic and surreal.

Angel cologne is like dark chocolate in a bottle. It’s fiery, powerful and never fails to draw attention. Mugler’s fragrances emanate a distinct sweetness with a sillage that’s above average. It clings longer than expected. One dominating feature that is not entirely a surprise: it smells like food, the melt-in-your-mouth kind, you can almost eat it. Think caramel, vanilla, cotton candies and all the sugar-coated foodstuff that you can imagine. Some find the candy-like sweetness too juvenile, too cloying, and too playful. Angel is an acquired taste, to put it bluntly. Only those who appreciate the gourmand-themed perfumes can stand Angel.

Angel is a fashion fragrance. It’s nice to wear during the cold weather, afternoons with the girlfriend, traipsing around the mall but not advisable for office wear. That is according to the neutral reviews by various Angel Men users. One cannot really vouch for its versatility as each person’s chemistry gives the accords a different rendition. You can say that this is a love hate fragrance. It works well on others but reacts differently on some. Perfume aficionados even rate this as a unisex fragrance. The inherent sweetness perhaps is the reason why some women don Angel Men.
Here is one interpretation that seemingly adapts to Angel Men’s unique fragrance, “Strolling through the billowing snow, scarf around your neck, and tuque on your head, breath completely visible, and the warm yet subtle scent of hot cocoa, mint, and coffee beans rising from your jacket. Delicious and comforting in the best possible way.” And another one who thinks that there’s too much coffee in the fragrance,” Overall, A*Men is well constructed and quite potent so don’t expect to shower with it and still retain your olfactory receptors. It is unique and long-lasting, which makes it very special indeed considering that it came out in the era of the aquatic invasion. Despite the coffee imposition, a definite thumbs up.”

M7 by Yves Saint Laurent...

m7-cologneM7 colgone by YSL embodies man’s innate sensual qualities – visceral and intense with an insatiable thirst for challenge. Like the modern man, M7 conveys an air of effortless masculinity. The fragrance grows on you and at some point, becomes you. It warms and dominates the senses with its agarwood-filled component. With elegant notes that proclaim one of a kind opulence, it creates a magnetic charm that may come across as addictive and quite intoxicating. M7 is a scent so unique that it empowers any man who wears it.

The seventh fragrance from the YSL perfumery, M7 is formulated as a rich and heavy scent teeming with rugged masculinity. The fragrance notes features earth-tones, wood accords, citrus, rosemary, bergamot and agarwood. M7 was launched in 2002 and was created by perfumers Jacques Cavalier and Alberto Morillas. Its provocative campaign stars martial arts champion Samuel de Cubber in the nude. According to creative director Tom Ford, the same virtuoso who designed the bottle, “Perfume is worn on the skin, so why hide the body?”

As M7 is quite a complex and daring fragrance to begin with, reviews teeter between the positive and the negative. A number of perfume reviews were pleased with the scent and their words are telling how impressed they have been with this perfume. One review from Basenotes says, “Discretion or delirium resides in one’s own hands and is dependent entirely upon one’s approach to this superb fragrance. It has the power to overwhelm. Used discretely, it is a warm enveloping fragrance of ethereal proportion, but, though dangerously tempting for those smitten by M7′s elegant Oriental charms, over use will cause swooning. M7 is appropriately romantic and sensual. I have to curb my desire to keep re-applying it because it has remarkable longevity; the real issue is a kind of intoxication or addiction. I adore it.” Infatuated, perhaps? Once you find your perfect chemistry, you won’t let go of it. Those who found solace in M7 gush, yield and become faithful to the fragrance.

This scent is certain to announce itself in the crowd. Straightforward and powerful — that what makes it distinct among the plethora of masculine scent in the perfumery. The sillage is superb; it mellows into a lasting yet compelling aroma. The sharp, smoky sweetness bites giving it a more pronounced and edgy appeal. M7 suits the cold months of winter. The woody oriental base blankets you with a comforting warmth akin to a familiar embrace.
M7 is a love hate fragrance. It’s heavy and on certain occasions, overwhelms the sensitive noses. But for those who appreciate its beauty, it’s titillating, hypnotic and endearing. You just can’t get enough of it.

Boss in Motion...

boss-in-motion-cologneBoss In Motion Cologne by Hugo Boss is an oriental fougere-themed perfume that radiates a zesty citrus scent blended with spicy oils and fresh woody notes. This scent tailors the active lifestyle – it’s soothingly crisp and full of energy. The notes features bergamot oil, basil flower, violet leaves, spicy pink pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, sandalwood and vetiver. The flacon’s shape, in metallic-pewter color, bespeaks class and effortless sophistication that corresponds with the Hugo Boss brand. Designed by perfumer Domitille Michalon in 2002, Boss In Motion brings out a certain aura of plenitude. It calms and embraces with a distinct warmth created by the contrast between citrus and vanilla.

Perfumistas like the initial kick of vanilla and old citrus. The invigorating appeal doesn’t last though; sillage is not that good. At least for some but others find it a tad heady at the opening like one user who reviewed Boss In Motion in Basenotes, “Some days I love this frag’ on me and other days I hate it!My wife likes it all the time thank goodness. Can tend towards fizzy and heady! I would suggest this frag’ is very skin dependent.”

In addition, not all men can pull off this fragrance. It’s a sweet masculine scent to begin with. So if your man is leaning towards the tobacco cum leathery notes fragrance, he may not like Boss In Motion. It’s lightly sweet bordering powdery-lemony. Sweet as it is, it’s not the type of sickly sweetness that turns off. It possesses a certain youthful pizazz that invigorates – active and very modern.

The Hugo Boss fashion house was established in 1923. Initially, the company made worker’s clothes and uniforms during the war. When the war was over, the company explored into designing men’s suits and later, women’s clothing. The fragrances were launched in the 1980s are under the licensing agreements with Procter & Gamble.

Safari by Ralph Lauren...

safari-ralph-laruenSafari Perfume by Ralph Lauren is floral green fragrance inspired by the adventure-seeking American lifestyle. Introduced in 1990 and created by perfume designer Dominique Ropion, this earthy fragrance delivers a lot of mossy green notes blended with lush fruity florals. The top notes opens up with galbanum, mandarin and hyacinth. The heart features a bouquet of lovely roses, lily of the valley, jasmine, narcissus and iris. The base culminates into a matte finish where vetiver, moss Tonka bean and styrax mingles.

This scent is distinctly a solid dry fragrance – expect chypre to dominate the notes. The seemingly arid essence is softened by a bunch of girly florals. Now, the combination doesn’t make the fragrance bland or similar to those run of the mill type of perfumes. Not at all. Rather, the scent conjures a feeling of class. Think of an unabashedly elegant woman that announces herself by her mere presence. She who possesses an aura that radiates effortlessly. That is how Safari is.

This fragrance may come off as heavy at first smell. The aromatic essence of opulent flowers and the crisp, dry feel of chypre lingers and hugs the skin for hours. It could be a casual and daytime scent or a special occasion fragrance for nocturnal affairs. Perfumistas gush over Safari’s beautiful dry fragrance. It’s romantic and evokes memories of the sunny days of summers in California.

safari-cologneSafari’s Men’s fragrance, on the one hand, is a nice fresh leathery fougere scent – very masculine, crisp and fresh. The accords features a well-blended concoction of aromatic oils, florals and woodsy notes. One perfume reviewer commented, “This is an understated, elegant scent that is very comforting. I feel relaxed when I wear it. I don’t know how close the notes are in this splash version to the EDT spray, but it really is a scent for every occasion.” And another fells Safari enhanced his natural scent, “I have used this cologne for a few years now and it has never failed to garner compliments, both from my girlfriend and other women. I have been told that it blends well with and accents my natural body scent to the point that women almost always want at least a hug.”

Like its women’s version, Safari for men has a certain air of sophistication and magnetic qualities revealing a lavish and extremely virile impression. Despite its sweetness and some ingredients are considered less masculine notes, the overall drydown is complete. It’s robust and conservatively very masculine.

Davidoff’s Silver Shadow and Silver Shadow A...

Silver Shadow by Davidoff is an oriental woody fragrance geared for the more mature audience. Think of executives in their forties clad in power suits – suave and oozing with effortless confidence. Its smooth and elegant scent is rich and teeming with a rich blend of bitter orange and cinnamon at the top and sensual and warm amber, patchouli and benzoin at the base. The middle is a bit subdued but the fresh-spicy essence lingers. Distinctly mysterious, Silver Shadow presents a rather familiar scent akin to other men’s fragrances. Expect a warm and pleasant sillage, average longevity and woodsy-powdery dry down.

This fragrance is remarkably a light blend. Its reminiscent of Lacoste but tamed and more inviting. Some say it’s pure charisma. It’s probably the endearing warmth permeated by the oriental base. Its sophisticated aroma shines without being obtrusive. Silver Shadow is a perfect day scent. It would serve well as an office fragrance. Perfume designer Francis Kurkjian created this fragrance and was launched in the market in 2005.

silver-shadow-cologneIn 2007, a more modern version of Silver Shadow was introduced. Bereft of the old man’s scent and peppered with hints of fruity sweetness comes a spin-off of the original called Silver Shadow Altitude. This flanker has more youth in it attributed to the citrusy essence of berries and grapefruits. The woodsy base remains; dry down is similar to the original Silver Shadow. This fragrance is likewise an everyday scent; it doesn’t impose, very subtle and delicate.

In sum, Silver Shadow fleshes out a timeless scent that doesn’t go out of style. Altitude, on the other hand, gives the fragrance a slightly modern panache but the distinct Davidoff aroma remains.
