Thierry Mugler Alien: A Great Transition Perfume f...

As cool weather starts to set in, we’re all beginning to make our transitions. We put away the lawn and patio furniture, we fold up the summer clothes and replace them with the autumn knits, we turn on fireplace on the occasional chilly morning and evening. Of all these transitions, there’s one important seasonal shift that perfumistas love to talk about—your fragrance change.

thierry-mugler-alien-print-campaign-2008-2Most perfume aficionados have a favorite perfume for summer and winter. For some this is simply a celebration of the passing of time. But for others, it’s a dire necessity to change a perfume with every passing season. While hot weather can cause a perfume to expand to suffocating intensities, cold weather can cause a perfume to shrink to undetectable concentrations. So in these last waning days of summer, it’s key to find a perfume that smells great in summer heat and autumn chill.

Through all my perfume sampling, I’ve found that Thierry Mugler Alien is a great transition fragrances. In fact, the entire Alien line can help you descend slowly into cooler days. Each Thierry Mugler Alien perfume is centered around a soft, soothing jasmine note. But the unique qualities of this perfume stop those jasmine notes from smelling familiar, traditional or boring. Strange and beautiful synthetic notes allow Alien to smell both warmly sunny and refreshingly breezy at the same time.

The limited edition versions of Alien are lighter and softer, which is great for the late days of summer. Both Alien Sunessence and Alien Eau Luminescente integrate notes of lemon, citrus and orange blossom into the floral jasmine core. These perfumes feel breezy, yet comforting. For more information on these limited edition flankers, check out these reviews on Alien perfumes.

thierry-mugler-alien-print-campaign-2008Also, this fall, Thierry Mugler is releasing a new edition of the Alien perfume. It’s called Alien Liqueur de Parfum, and it integrates woody notes. This perfume is aged in wood barrels, just like fine liqueurs, so as to incorporate the well-rounded woody notes. To find out more about the new-fangled perfume-ageing process, check out this article on Thierry Mugler Liqueur de Parfum.

The original Thierry Mugler Alien is a widely loved perfume. This perfume is filled with expansive, creamy jasmine notes and the softest soothing wood accords. At times, Alien smells buttery, yellow, and warm like sunlight. At other times, Alien smells fruity, frozen, and crisp like frozen grapes. Lingering behind this magical fragrant illusion is another layer of complexity—a synthetic effusive accord. Alien is not a simple, natural, straightforward jasmine perfume. Alien is a unique perfume that proudly offers jasmine notes a modern edge.

As we’re all considering our perfume transitions and thinking about what next to buy, take a moment to consider Thierry Mugler Alien. This is a jasmine perfume that is soft, but sweet, and all around unique. It’s a great stand out fragrance for the changing weather!

What is Blake Lively’s Favorite Perfume?...

Ralph Hot Perfume

Actress Blake Lively consistenly wears Ralph Lauren outfits on and off screen. So it’s only natural to assume that she wears Ralph Lauren perfumes. But which one?

From the on set of Gossip Girls to casual off-the-job days, Blake Lively can be spotted around Tinseltown wearing some of the most simple, but definitively flattering Ralph Lauren fashion. Her simple, low-key tastes even extend through to her beauty regime! Cosmogirl reported that for a night out, Blake Lively loves natural makeup matched and Tarte lipgloss. For some nighttime fun, she chooses to go with plain jeans, a tube top and heels. She really is a simple normal girl—perhaps even more so than your average girl next door.

If Blake Lively really is a Ralph girl, which Ralph perfume would she wear? It’s undeniable that she would enjoy  one of the simple, but youthful perfumes from the Ralph Lauren perfume range. On the record, however, Blake recently stated that her favorite perfume is Victoria’s Secret Ooh la la Shimmering Fragrance Mist. But I bet if someone gave her a bottle or two of the youthful, peppy Ralph perfumes, Blake Lively would be in perfume heaven.

Because Ralph Lauren perfumes are so simple, pretty and youthful, they definitely fit Blake Lively’s style. Lots of people love matching their perfume to the occasion and their outfit. What do you think about these Blake Lively Ralph Lauren looks? Which Ralph Lauren perfume would fit the best?

Versace Versense Review: Move Over, Versace Bright...

Versace Versense, the latest perfume from the Versace, is not quite what you would expect from a brand that does fashionable flamboyance like no one else. The popular darlings of the Versace perfume line are Bright Crystal and its flanker, Crystal Noir. Both these fragrances are both wildly intense. Versace Versense, on the other hand, is a softer, more neutral floral perfume.

Donatella Versace, mistress of the Versace brand, is an avid perfume collector who surely harbors a wide and varied taste for perfumes. So despite the popular calling for Bright Crystal and Crystal Noir, it’s high time that Donatella, the perfume aficionado, adds a little diversity to her range of women’s perfumes. Versace Versense, which was released this summer, is slowly climbing the perfume charts of popularity. So watch out Versace Bright Crystal, you are about the meet competition!

Versace Versense sits on the borderline of many perfume categories. This fragrance is a citrus fragrance, a green fragrance, and a floral fragrance all at once. Versense begins with a sharp citrus spark. Fresh and clean notes of bergamot, mandarin, and fig open this light summer fragrance. With some time, these fresh citrus notes give way to a well rounded floral-musk. Full floral notes of magnolia, lotus and peony keep this perfume feeling full and lively, while soft touches of musk and wood finish the perfume.

Versense, according to Donatella, is supposed to be a Mediterranean perfume. Now we all know that Mediterranean perfumes smell like—dry qualities of citrus, wood and moss dominate. But while Versense opens with a Mediterranean façade, the Mediterranean quality quickly fades into a full floral perfume. So if you’re looking for a dry, clean energetic perfume—as most Mediterranean perfumes are—Versense is probably not for you. If you’re looking for a soft, clean floral with a citrus opener, Versense has got your number.

While Versense is not exactly the Mediterranean perfume it is advertised to be, it’s definitely an understated floral perfume that deserves some kudos. Unlike Versace Bright Crystal and Crystal Noir, Versense is a modest perfume. Versace Bright Crystal is a high energy perfume that is crisp, fruity and above all bright. Bright Crystal comes in a pinked-out bottle that’s topped with a larger-than-life crystalline stopper. Versace Crystal Noir, just like Bright Crystal, is an intense perfume. Crystal Noir is dark, fruity, syrupy and oriental. The bottle is equally deep and intense: a dark amber-like bottle resonates the resinous woody tones within. In contrast to these loud and intense perfumes, Versense looks like a simplistic cologne bottle. The look is a dead give away to the clean, simple fragrance inside.
